1. A Word from the Director

Dear student,

On behalf of the management team and all staff members, I would like to welcome you on board to NHL Stenden Hospitality Group (NHG).

The reason for NHG's existence is our student population and the fact that we are committed to giving you the best possible preparation for a successful career in the hospitality industry and beyond. NHG is a company that is unique and truly amazing because we value and embrace the profits of our students, our staff and, most importantly, the planet. We have maintained this culture through years of developing and following our handbook; our unique way of doing things. NHG creates a Real World Learning environment, where we introduce you to the best practices, trends and developments in the international hospitality industry at operational, supervisory and managerial levels. At NHG, commerce is a means and not an end. It is a chosen strategy to train you in the most real environment possible, with real guests, high occupancy rates and real-life challenges.

As part of our strategy, NHG business units are promoted as value-for-money businesses based on specific principles. In the Food and Beverage outlets, this is reflected through the principles of Dutch Cuisine: Culture, Health, Nature, Quality and Value. In the Rooms Division departments, these principles are translated into: Comfort, Sustainability, Innovation and Sense of Place.

At NHG, our  Handbook sets out the background to our business and the specific business etiquettes that make our company what it is today. The handbook also describes our fundamental obligation to conduct business ethically and honestly. We must always act with integrity, take responsibility for results and do the right thing. The handbook also outlines the expectations, the programme and important information that are necessary for you during your practical training periods.

This year, we are introducing a revised and redesigned version of our Handbook. It is a user-friendly statement of our shared values and house rules and includes examples and interactive links to supporting materials.

Taking personal responsibility for our actions is critical to our success and I urge you to take the time to understand and then live by the Handbook. It is important to know that we expect you to adhere to these policies and guidelines and use them as a guide when making decisions that affect NHG.

I wish you a great time at NHG!

Best regards,

Anton van der Sluis
